2021 in Review!

2021 had its share of big events (both good and bad).  January was relatively calm, but then in roared February.    On February 5th, I got a call from Scott around 7:30 in the morning saying he slipped on some ice and he ‘thought’ he broke his leg.  Later looking at pictures, we could see it was at a 90 degree angle, so he was probably still in a bit of shock at the time of his self-diagnosis!  He dislocated it, and broke his tibia and fibula – he had surgery that night.  He came home the next day, and the long recovery process began – to this day, it’s still a bit swollen, but he’s made great progress!

On the bright side, I did learn how to use the snow blower… actually not too bad!  I did receive multiple concerned messages as there was an untimely recall on a similar model due to amputation risk, but all limbs remained intact J

Noah also had the opportunity to do middle school swim (both at the beginning of this year, and at the end).  Whether or not he enjoys it is debatable, and depends on the day, but you can see how his dive improved (second to last lane in both)!

We officially gained a teenager in our house in April with him turning 13, and I’m actually stunned to realize he’s only been a teenager for 8 months as I’m writing this.  He’ll start high school next fall, and will be passing me up in the height department any day now.

Adam will start middle school next fall, so we’ll eventually have to stop treating him like our baby J  His highlights include getting his braces off (which he reminds Noah of quite regularly… he’ll regret this once it’s time for phase 2 and for them to come back on!), and turning 11, which he celebrated with a giant slip and slide in our backyard.

He continues to play the piano, which he enjoys most of the time.  He also gave team sports a try this fall, and played soccer.  He did not enjoy this, and he now considers himself retired – we were proud of him for sticking it out though!

In other big news, after 4+ years on dialysis, my dad received a kidney in June!  The recovery process is ongoing, but he received a nice, strong one, which we are so grateful for.

I am still working from home, and Scott is back at his office – we’ve got our routines down pretty well.  The dogs enjoy having me home (I think), and it’s nice to not have a commute.  We didn’t take any big trips this year, but did spend quite a bit of time Up North, as well as went to South Haven with my family in August.  We are planning on getting on a plane for the first time in 2 years this winter and heading to Florida, so everyone is excited about that.

And finally, here are the videos for the year...
