2019 in Review!

2019 was a big year of transitions around here... lots of firsts, and lots of lasts.  Some were bittersweet, but most were exciting.  Here's what I can remember!

First Disney Run
In January, Amy and I, along with a few other friends, took a long weekend trip to Disney World to run the Disney Half Marathon.  Besides being able to thaw out from the Michigan winter, it was pretty awesome running down Main Street in the lights surrounded by people cheering!

First (and Last) Adam Basketball
Despite his earlier insistence that he was 'not a sports fan', Adam decided to try basketball this year.  It didn't quite stick...

First Adam Swim Team
... which led to his next sports try, joining the swim team with Noah!  Hopefully this one sticks a little longer.

Last Pinewood Derby and Cub Scouts
In the world of Noah, he had a lot of 'lasts' this year as he ended elementary school.  First up was his last Pinewood Derby, and his 'crossing over' ceremony to graduate Cub Scouts, and become a Boy Scout (which I guess is a 'first' too!).

First Communion
This spring, Adam made his First Communion.  Unlike his brother, he managed to receive the Body of Christ gracefully, rather than plucking it from the priest's hands (he had a lot of instruction beforehand, we weren't making that mistake again! :))

Last Day of Elementary School
In the bittersweet category, Noah finished up 5th grade in June.  His school did a nice job with the last day, and had a breakfast, ceremony, and assembly.  There were a few tears in the beginning (ours, not his), but amazingly, we made it through the 'clap out' tear free!  He was ready to go!

Last Single Digit Birthday - Adam
In July, Adam turned 9, and had, as he requested, 'a big party with a lot of people'.  Luckily, we had a perfect summer day for it, and the water slide got a lot of use.

First Day of Middle School
In September, Noah started 6th grade.  He was a bit apprehensive about getting to each class on time, and opening his locker, but all went fine.  He won't go as far as to say he likes it, but he does say that it's better than elementary school... we'll take it!

First Halloween Noah Abandoned Us
Finally, Noah decided this year to go trick or treating with his friends in a different neighborhood, leaving the rest of us on our own.  Per usual, it was crappy weather, but Adam made it all the way around the neighborhood.  He kept repeating his mantra to himself 'I can survive this'... and he did!  Candy is apparently a great motivator!
